How to choose the right blood test or health panel

Start with the health question you want to answer, then choose the smallest useful set of biomarkers.

A larger test is not automatically a better test. The right choice depends on why you are testing, whether you have symptoms, what your clinician needs to know, and which results would change the next decision.

Start with the question

  • Is this a routine health check?

  • Are you monitoring a known condition?

  • Do you have symptoms that need clinical assessment?

  • Are you checking a suspected deficiency?

  • Do you need a baseline before a care programme?

  • Are you retesting a previous abnormal value?

  • Did a clinician request specific biomarkers?

General panels

A general health panel can be useful when you want a broad baseline. Review the categories and biomarkers included instead of choosing only by the panel name.

Focused panels

A focused panel can be more efficient when the question is specific, such as thyroid function, glucose control, iron status, vitamins, hormones, allergy testing, or sexual health screening.

Avoid testing without a plan

Testing many biomarkers increases the chance that something falls outside a reference range by chance. Before booking, ask what you would do with the result and who will help interpret it.

Symptoms still need assessment

Do not use a retail test menu to delay urgent or appropriate medical care. A clinician may recommend examination, imaging, or a different investigation instead of, or in addition to, blood tests.

Get help choosing

Search the live Blood Tests catalogue or contact DarDoc with the health question, requested biomarkers, and any clinician instructions. Customer support can help locate a test, but only a qualified healthcare professional should make a clinical recommendation.
