Who may not be suitable for an IV Drip?

IV therapy requires clinical screening, and some people need extra caution, medical clearance, or a different form of care.

IV therapy is not suitable for everyone. The treating healthcare professional must decide whether it is safe to proceed based on the selected formulation and the information available on the day.

Tell the clinical team about

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • Heart, kidney, or liver conditions

  • Fluid restrictions

  • High or low blood pressure

  • Diabetes or other metabolic conditions

  • Known allergies or previous infusion reactions

  • Current prescription medicines, supplements, and recent treatments

  • Problems with bleeding, clotting, veins, or previous cannulation

  • Fever, infection, vomiting, diarrhoea, or feeling acutely unwell

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

DarDoc’s terms state that IV therapy is generally not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the treating physician has expressly cleared it. Do not book based only on a non-clinical recommendation.

If you feel unwell on the day

Tell DarDoc before the visit if your condition has changed. A wellness drip may not be appropriate when symptoms require diagnosis or urgent assessment.

A nurse may decline to proceed

The administering healthcare professional can refuse or postpone treatment when a contraindication or safety concern is identified. Payment or a prior booking does not override clinical judgment.

Emergency symptoms

Do not wait for an IV booking if you have severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, signs of stroke, loss of consciousness, severe dehydration with confusion, a severe allergic reaction, or another medical emergency. Call 998 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Review the precautions for the specific treatment on the live IV page before confirming.
