Most home collections are straightforward and take less time than the full appointment window. The exact process depends on the samples required.
Arrival and identity check
The collector confirms the patient’s identity, booking, requested tests, and preparation. Keep your valid Emirates ID or Passport ready.
Before collection
Tell the collector about fainting, difficult veins, bleeding or clotting conditions, allergies to dressings, recent surgery, and anything else relevant to the procedure.
The blood draw
The collector prepares a clean working area and single-use supplies.
A suitable vein is selected, usually in the arm.
The skin is cleaned and the needle is inserted.
The required tubes are collected and labelled.
The needle is removed and pressure is applied.
A dressing is placed over the site.
If another sample is required
Some packages include urine or another sample. Follow the collection instructions carefully because timing, container, and contamination can affect quality.
After collection
Keep pressure on the site for the time advised. Mild bruising or tenderness can occur. Tell the collector immediately if you feel faint, unwell, or continue bleeding.
Sample transport
The labelled samples are transferred to the accredited laboratory partner according to the handling requirements for the tests ordered.
Needle anxiety
Tell the collector before starting. Looking away, lying down when appropriate, slow breathing, and clear communication can make the experience easier.
